To support and stimulate with core reference collections and information services the independent research, intellectual creativity and dialogue on a national and regional scale.
The Library of the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia is developing collections of printed and electronic resources in the area of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Balkan Studies in the modern and contemporary era. It aims to serve as a Balkan information center about major scientific forums in these fields which take place in Bulgaria, the region of Southeast Europe and the Western Europe. The library is an open-stack, lending facility primarily designed for the use of CAS Fellows, but it is also open to the general public upon request. It provides library and reference services based on traditional and electronic information sources.

“The Balkan Bibliography” is a successful project of the CAS Library in co-operation with the National Library. It has created a bibliography of monographs, encyclopaedias, reference books and articles published in Bulgaria in the period 1985-2001. On the basis of the electronic databases a bibliographic index on ‘Bulgarian Publications in Balkan Studies 1985-2001’ has been published in April 2003.
CAS Library hosted a meeting of directors of Balkan national libraries and presidents of library associations from Albania, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey in 2002, and a meeting of bibliographers from the national libraries of Bulgaria, Serbia and Macedonia on the 12th of June 2003.
