Negotiating Modernity: History of Modern Political Thought in East-Central Europe

Maciej Janowski, Associate professor at the Institute of History, Polish Academy of Sciences (Head of Workshop of the history of intelligentsia since 2006), Recurrent Visiting Professor at the History Department of CEU (since 1999). Ph.D. in History 1993 (Institute of History, Polish Academy of Sciences), habilitation in 1999.

Editor of the journal East Central Europe/L’Europe du Centre-Est since 2005; deputy editor of Kwartalnik Historyczny (Warsaw) since 2003. Published numerous studies on Polish and Central European intellectual history, among others Polish Liberal Thought before 1918, (2004), while his Narodziny polskiej inteligencji 1750-1831 (The Birth of the Polish Intelligentsia 1750-1831), was published in 2008.

Principal fields of interest: Polish and East-Central European history in the 19th century, with special focus on the history of political ideas.
